Lesser known facts about our former President Pranab Mukherjee

My heart is filled with pain to hear about the demise of our former President Pranab Mukherjee today. He was a true gentleman and a great leader. I still remember his speech at IIM, Ahmedabad in 2015 which brought goosebumps. I was really inspired by his vision for innovations and concern for economic growth.

Today I would love to share some fewer known facts about our “dada”. Apart from Politics, he had also worked as a Professor at Vidyanagar College in West Bengal and Journalist Deshkar Dak Magazine. Having the blood of a freedom fighter, he had always been interested in serving the countrymen, so he joined politics.

He was close to Indira Gandhi and became the Member of Parliament through Rajya Sabha. After the death of Indira Gandhi, he started his own party Rashtriya Samajwadi Party but later again joined Congress.

He was among the most versatile minister of India and handled four major ministries like Defence, Finance Commerce, and Foreign. He was voted as the best Finance Minister in the world by Euromoney magazine.

Having an extraordinarily strong persona, he as rejected 7 mercy petitions including that of Afzal Guru and Ajamal Kasab thus ending the long delaying of justice. He is the author of more than 10 books to date with some exceptional success like Off the track, Thoughts and reflections, Congress and the making of the Indian nation, The turbulent Years, The Coalition Years, Saga of Struggle and Sacrifices and Midterm Poll.

Though he has left us today physically, he will always be remembered as a gem. May his soul REST IN PEACE.
